Sieve Networks provides all its hosted customers with access to a powerful website design interface called Plesk. This guide will serve as a guide to getting a website up and running with Plesk.
Before you begin, this we assume that you have already created a web page you would like to put up on your web site. For the sake of this guide, rename the page “index.html,” “index.htm,” or “index.php.”
- In a browser, go to https://yourdomain.com:8443/ to view the Plesk login page for your site. If you are asked about an invalid certificate, accept the certificate and proceed past the warning. In Firefox 3.5, for instance, click on “I Understand the Risks,” “Add Exception,” and then “Confirm Security Exception.”
- Enter your username and password, and click the “Login” button.
- Now that you’ve logged into your Plesk Control Panel, click on the “Home” link in the upper left of the page, in the General section of the menu.
- Click on “yourdomain.com” at the bottom.
- To upload your first page, click on the “File Manager” link in the “Hosting” section, near the center of the page.
- All of your web page documents should go in the “httpdocs” folder, so click on the “httpdocs” link.
- We’ll start by uploading an index page, which is what you see when you visit your site initially (by going to http://yourdomain.com). Near the top, click the “Add New File” button. If you can’t find it, holding your mouse over the links will display information about them on the left side of the screen.
- To the right of “Path to file,” click on the “Browse...” button. Select your “index.html,” “index.htm,” or “index.php” page and press okay. Then, in the bottom right of the upload page, press the “OK” button.
- Now, go to http://yourdomain.com to see your uploaded page! If your page does not appear, make sure that you put it in the “httpdocs” folder and that the name is “index.html,” “index.htm,” or “index.php.” Capitalization and spelling must match exactly. If you notice an error, delete the old file on the server, fix your file on your computer, and upload it again.
